Portal to the Public (PoP) is an implementation project that helps organizations connect public audiences with current local science through interactions with scientists. Led by Pacific Science Center in Seattle, Washington, the original PoP framework has been implemented at 50+ organizations. The framework can be applied to diverse institutional types and sizes and includes building relationships with scientists, providing professional development in science communication, and holding public programs featuring scientists. As the only botanical gardens in the network, Reiman Gardens and Phipps Conservatory have each adopted the PoP model to fit their own needs. Staff from each garden and PoP management staff from Pacific Science Center will discuss the framework, the range of implementation practices, and program involvement.
